Vanita Gupta: Mass Incarceration and Racial Inequalities

Vanita Gupta, Deputy Legal Director of the ACLU and Director of the ACLU’s Center for Justice, was the invited keynote speaker at this year’s Northwest ACLU conference at Lewis & Clark College back in September. She specializes in issues concerning racial inequalities and the mass incarceration system. Her New York Times op-ed tells the story in greater detail here.

While she was in Portland, we chatted at Director Park downtown, about the historical and economic drive behind mass incarceration, how this affects our communities and on a positive note, the increasing number of Asian Pacific Americans involved in such social justice issues.
