Ishmael Beah: The Radiance of Tomorrow
Writer and humanitarian, Ishmael Beah, survived a childhood conscripted as a soldier in his native Sierra Leone. That story is told in his memoir, A Long Way Gone. He recently published his first novel, The Radiance of Tomorrow, a work of fiction based on conversations with the people who stayed behind and survived the war.
Beah stopped by Portland on his tour and we met at Powell’s City of Books. We chatted about his experiences, his hopes for the future of Sierra Leone and the Ishmael Beah Foundation, dedicated to helping youth affected by war.
This interview was featured on our March episode of APA Compass on KBOO Community Radio.
