Sandra Cisneros: Have You Seen Marie?
Sandra Cisneros is a pioneer Chicana writer, whose work includes the infamous, The House on Mango Street, Caramelo, and Woman Hollering Creek. She has won a number of awards, including the prestigious MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and the National Endowment for the Arts. She was raised in Chicago and has spent the past twenty years in San Antonio. Her latest book, Have You Seen Marie?, was written after her mother passed away. This metaphorical search for a cat named Marie, explores Sandra coping with grief and her San Antonio community. The book was illustrated by San Francisco based artist, Ester Hernandez.
While she was on her book tour, Sandra stopped in Portland. We met at the KBOO studios for an interview with the literary show, Between the Covers. This interview features music by Rupa & the April Fishes and The Vijay Iyer Trio.
